Activities 2011

To start off the year, as a result of interest for English workshops, we have decided to extend the offer to work with the CatNova Association to cover more sectors and benefit more people.

EduRedBcn is a networking project of legal training and education for women, young adults, and children in Catalonia. The initiative is aimed at renewing the capacity and improving the competitiveness of our alumni so they can access new and better jobs and, at the same time, become aware of values such as solidarity, compromise, and voluntary cooperation.

The English workshops, along with the information classes, have been requested most by our clients. Tuition is free but we request a small voluntary contribution in order to raise awareness about the values of the workshops and to ensure that our students attend. The money that is raised will go to administrative costs of the project and will contribute to international administrative projects. In addition to economic aid, students will also participate in volunteer work within the network. This collaboration allows us to help the students be exposed to participatory work and networking. At the same time, it is a good way of integrating into the Catalan society. In this way, apart from learning English, students will learn important values of cross-cultural-education. The classes, primarily designed for women, will start at a beginning level.

The teachers giving the workshops are students from English-speaking countries who are doing internships for their universities. EduredBcn works with a professional in linguistic education, creates and coordinates the content of the courses.

Since the summer of 2011, we offer workshops in five different venues. They various venues are in Sabadell (two volunteers), Terrasa (two volunteers) and Barcelona (five volunteers).

All of this has been possible because of the supportive alliances with IES Abroad, FEDELATINA, SAE Barcelona, Casa de Uruguay, Casa de Colimbia, Asociación Latino Americano de Sabadell and BABELS.

Activities 2010

Project: English workshops

Free English classes began on February 9th with collaboration from the Center of Peru of Barcelona and support from its president, Segundo Holguin. These English workshops have been developed throughout the year to include classes for both youth and women during the morning and afternoons with the option of either basic or intermdiate level of language ability. In collaboration with IES Abroad in Barcelona, we have found volunteer tutors to teach these classes. Now, this project has grown to include workshops established in many various sites throughout Barcelona that have been very successful. The only requirement of the classes is the punctual and consistent attendance of the students. The students participating in the program are very ecclectic individuals but some popular reasons for learning English have been in the interest of reaching greater work and study opportunities.
We continued with the classes...summer of 2010.
Sale of Jewelry
We successfully ran the Exposition-Sale of Jewelry December 10th in the Center of Antiques of Barcelona, proceeds going to PAYPE. We realized this sale with the assistance of the assigned Consul General, Mr. Pablo Cisneros.
Christmas at the Peruvian Consulate

Paype was invited to celebrate Christmas at the Peruvian Consulate with the attendance of Ambassador Miguel Palomino de la Gala, Consul General of Peru and the Principal Officers D. Ricardo Silva Santisteban and D. Pablo Cisneros. The festivities included a chocolatada (the serving of hot chocolate) and a panteón typical of Peruvian Christmases, the delivery of toys to all the children present, the performance of dances from distinct areas of Peru under the charge of the dance school of regional dances “Bailes y Costumbres” whose mission is to pass onto the children of first generation immigrants their traditions and customs. The dances were performed by students of the school of various ages.
Partnership with the NGO, Bruce Peru
Within our mission to help the most unprotected populations, we have developed a partnership this past December with Bruce Peru, an NGO that has, for the past 25 years, had volunteer projects where they need people with any special skillset in order to support the most vulnerable populations, i.e. that of children, women, and the elderly. The much-needed volunteers range from primary educators, doctors and other individuals with medical backgrounds, nurses, specialists in the rights of children and mothers, psychologists, hygiene specialists, etc. We want to spread this project to Spain with the objective of getting sutdents of different disciplines involved so that they can apply their knowledge to an everyday reality. We would also like to coordinate these volunteers to be placed in Trujillo, Peru from where they will be able to complete their volunteer service with a sector of the population with many difficulties and in need of their support.
Conference on “The crisis, conflicts, and resolution in a business”

The conference “The crisis, conflicts, and resolution in a business” led by Mirta Casanovas was held on November 22nd. The crises are a call to attention, recognizing
On the 22 of November, the confrence of Mirta Casanovas, over "the crisis, the conflicts, and the resolution of the buisness". The crisis is a wake up call, time to recognize that "let things stay the same" means that we are relegating them to gradual decline, the second row of a new global order. Conflicts are a part of our life and a source of learning. The necessary tools to confront these conflicts are: (1) confidence in oneself and others, (2) the belief that you can do something, and (3) the knowledge that
The necessary tools to teach them are: (1) confidence in theirselves and in others, (2) teaching them that they can make a difference, and (3) the knowledge of effective and appropriate social skills to meet your needs through respect for yourself and others. In conclusion, we developed an interesting discussion about the global crisis we are currently living in and as citizens of the European Union. We also proposed we come up with a strategy for inteligent, sustainable, and integrative growth.
Partnership with the University of Barcelona
This partnership was first established in October of 2009 for the 2009-2010 academic school year in which Ana Lucía Olivos Pairazamán, Peruvian by birth and catalonian by adoption, completed her internship. She has been with us for the past five years. Ana originally comes from Chepén from the north of Peru and it is for this reason we elected her to work with us in this area that she has a very special connection with.

Avalón Course on “Panel de Avalón de “Participative Management and Networking”
On September 22nd, 23rd, 29th, and 30th, we participated in several courses as a part of a program that Avalón offers throughout the year. Networking requires us to develop certain personal values and responsibility that is as much social as it is personal. Networks are the answer to the functioning of our society. Networking must take advantage of available technologies instead of letting it become an obstacle. These are some of the topics that were covered for the benefit of the participating organizations working to maintain their working conditions in changing times with changing technologies.
Conference on “Innovation For a More Just and Sustainable World”
On July 5th, the Insitute for Social Innovation of ESADE invited PAYPE to this conference. This institute was created with the mission to develop business sectors not for profit but for the contribution to a more just and sustainable world. It was very interesting to hear how a number of entrepreneurs are envisioning greater social respnsobility in order to achieve a greater level of quality of life for the average citizen and to realize solutions to the problems of the civilized world.
Interview on the radio station La Bomba

We had an interview with “La Bomba” radio station on the program “The voice of the village” with Alejandra Oseguera Pocho on June 10th. Ana Lucía Olivos Pairazamán spoke about her experience interning with the School of Political Science and her vision to support from here in Catalonia those all the way in northern Peru. M. Elena Palacio spoke about her role at PAYPE, principally on the English workshops.
Diner in the Peruvian Center of Barcelona
The Peruvian Center of Barcelona invited us to a welcome dinner on June 4th. It was in honor of the reception of the recently named Consul General of Peru, Minister Hector Matallana Martínez.
Proyecto: Presentación a AECID
May 27th: Presentation by AECID of the project “IMPROVEMENT IN AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR WATER TREATMENT, ENERGY PRODCUTION, AND THE RECUPERATION OF LAND STARTING WITH THE RESIDUAL WATERS OF THE MILAGRO COMMUNITY, DISTRICT OF HUANCHACO, DEPARTMENT OF LA LIBERTAD, PERU”
With the motive of completing our projects in an efficient manner with the advantage of direct communication between our volunteers and Ricard Pereira, professor at the University of Barcelona, we had a meeting to discuss preparations to develop a strategy. We greatly appreciate AECID’s advice and attention as we have already taken advantage of their experience to apply solutions to our many difficulties and to anticipate ones we may have in the future.

Conference on “A Mature Personality and Achieving Equilibrium”
Following a colloquium meal where we spoke with PAYPE’s beneficiaries, we attended a conference on May 18th at the IESE.
Course on “The Search for NGO Financing”
We attended this course offered by Avalón as a part of a 4-day conference in April. It touched on public co-financing and the distinct organizations that convened for it. Diifferent forms of catchment from private entities, like other efficient methods and models were also discussed.
Invitation to the Farewell Reception for the Ambassador
On February 26th, we were invited to a farewell reception for Ambassador Miguel Palomino de la Galahasta, Consul General of Peru in Barcelona with attendance of Peruvian Ambassador of Spain, Hon. Mr. Jaime Cáceres Sayá.
Continued Education, Course on Project Management
At a conference offered by AVALON on February 17, 18, 24, and 25th, we participated in a course on project management. We had a total 16 hours dedicated to the topic with Jacobo Orcharán Diez, Gabriela Serra, and Tiziano Ferri leading the discussion.
We saw the FOCUS OF THE LOGICAL FRAMEWORK (EML), an analytical method for the planning of project management oriented towards specific objectives. It speaks of a method of planning in a system that that permits the execution and justification of better and more logical decisions...
Conference on International Cooperation the University of Ramón Lull (URL)
The UNESCO Chair at the Univserity of Ramón Lull (URL) held a multiple-day conference beginning on February 4th where PAYPE was present, where the discussions were centered on how to better know the reality of Bolivia which shares many cultural similarities with Peru. The purpose was to reach greater depth in developing solutions to resolve common issues such as learning and understanding what resources are available to a given project by the various Agencies of International Cooperation (AECID).
We each had distinct visions and could draw from our different disciplines to achieve the goal of making the investment and cooperation of different entities (focused on various countries) a sustainable venture. The need for coordinated work was emphasized so that resources,
many coming from donations, could be inverted in a sustainable manner over time and not quickly used up, and then not serve to change realities in benefit of the population. Closing remarks were made by the rector, Dr. Rosa Normen and by Mr. Antonio Travería, director of the House of America in Catalunya.
Partnership with the Organization IES Abroad
We signed an agreement for further collaboration so that students studying with IES abroad may complete their internship assignments as volunteer tutors with PAYPE in our project of English workshops. This partnership will help IES Abroad reach its goal of providing a good outlet for the development of work skills for their students and help us reach our goal of realizing our project.

POETRY RECITAL 2010

On Saturday at 6:30 the second edition of the Poetry Recital took place. It was run by the INQUIETUDES for the benefit of PAYPE (Programs of support for Peru).

With a great turnout, the public almost reached the capacity of the Saint Vincent Parochial Center Theater on Sarriá.

There were words of gratitude and a presentation of PAYPE’s projects. Many people make this event possible; they make it possible that the communities we work with can get many of the necessities for day-to-day life. PAYPE is sustained by volunteers and is thankful for their work and the generated collection, all of which goes directly towards our projects. The group INQUIETUDES (Worries) is part of that group of volunteers that help us by doing what they know best and helping secure the money necessary to continue with these projects. To all of them: thank you very much.

The jewelry shop LIALLI Duaby has wanted to help as well and besides giving people a card to exchange for a pretty pearl bracelet, they have donated to us a necklace to draw for. The drawing was very exciting thanks to the beautiful necklace.

As we also have projects for women, MUJERES EN IGUALIDAD (Women in Equality) have wanted to collaborate with the event.

We spoke of our experience when we traveled to Peru from June to July where we could visit the distinct projects already under way and others just beginning. We visited the finished projects checking their transformation and the good use that is being made of what it achieved.

Chepén is a hostel where they give shelter to single mothers and abandoned children. Recently the sewing machines that helped to support the hostel as a way to make money for some of those women were stolen.
